Weekuri Lagoon
A turquoise saltwater lagoon fed by seawater seeping through the reef, calm enough to swim in safely.
A lagoon, not a lake
Locals call it a lake, but Weekuri is a saltwater lagoon. Seawater seeps in through gaps in the limestone on the western side and collects in a basin ringed by karst cliffs. Because it is cut off from the surf, the water stays calm — far safer for swimming than the beaches nearby.
Why it looks like that
The turquoise comes from white coral on the bottom combined with shifting depths. The colour is strongest when the sun is high and the water is still. After heavy rain it can stay cloudy for a day or two.
What to bring
Swimwear and a change of clothes — the rinsing facilities are basic. Sandals with grip help on the limestone steps. Put sunscreen on before you swim, not after.
