Waimarang is known for its clear turquoise pool, enclosed by limestone. It is deep enough to jump into from the edge in a few places — but only where the local guide points out, not wherever it looks inviting.
Easy down, hard up
The way in is a natural staircase of rock and tree roots. Going down is quick; the climb back out is what catches people out. We tell guests this at the start so they can pace themselves rather than discover it halfway up.
What to bring
Swimwear, a change of clothes, and enough water. Shoes with grip are safer than flip-flops.
